Much of Dallas-Fort Worth area under severe thunderstorm watch Monday night - The Dallas Morning News

Updated at 7:30 p.m.: Revised to include severe thunderstorm watch.

After a weekend with spring temperatures, this week will bring several chances for rain in North Texas.

Scattered showers will be likely Monday, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5), with a possibility of strong to severe weather in the afternoon and into the evening.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch Monday evening for much of North Texas — including Dallas, Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties. The watch expires at midnight.

According to the weather service, areas near Interstate 20 and to the south of it are at the highest risk of severe weather.

Widespread severe weather is not likely, but there is a chance that a few storm cells could produce quarter-size hail and wind gusts of up to 70 mph.

A tornado threat is low, NBC5 reported, and all of the rain is expected to leave Dallas-Fort Worth by midnight.

A second wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to arrive late Wednesday, NBC5 reported.
