The first weekend of spring was glorious across North Texas, but things are about to change with multiple rain chances this week.
Scattered showers are likely today, with the possibility of severe weather late today into this evening.
A powerful storm system is coming out of New Mexico today. As this system approaches, showers and thunderstorms will develop across North Texas.
Initially, rain chances will be spotty during the day today. By evening, however, a line of storms will likely develop as a cold front draws near.
This line of storms is likely to be strong or possibly severe. The Storm Prediction Center has North Texas outlined in the "slight" risk category. This generally implies that a few isolated cells may become severe.
While a major widespread severe weather outbreak is not likely, a few cells will be capable of producing large hail (quarter-size or larger) and damaging wind gusts (over 60 mph).
The tornado threat is low, but not completely zero. The timing for the strong/severe storms in DFW looks to be between 6-10 p.m.
All of the rain should exit DFW by midnight.
Tuesday will be sunny, dry and warm again. But the second wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to arrive late Wednesday and rain will linger into Thursday as well.
At this point, there doesn't appear to be a severe weather threat with that second system.
A strong upper-level storm system is moving through New Mexico this morning and heading our way. This system will bring a concern for strong to severe thunderstorms this evening.
