The drivers of two motor vehicles involved in a "severe head-on collision" at a section of the Municipal Boulevard in Portmore, St Catherine, on Wednesday morning have been rushed to hospital for treatment.
The police, who are trying to determine what led to the crash, told Loop News that one woman had to be extricated from the motor vehicle by members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dellon Lewis of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch said the two drivers received "serious injuries".
The crash, which occurred sometime after 6am, resulted in delays for motorists, but the road has since been cleared and things are returning to normal, ASP Lewis said.
According to statistics from the Road Safety Unit, 98 people have been killed in 87 fatal crashes since the start of the year to March 29, 2023.
It said, too, that males account for 92 per cent and females account for eight per cent of the road fatalities since the start of the year.
