Amateur Scots football captain in intensive care after 'sudden and severe accident' - Daily Record

An amateur football captain is receiving treatment in intensive care after a sudden and 'severe' accident.

Scott Taylor, who is the captain for East of Scotland League side Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale, is recovering in hospital following the incident at his home at the weekend. The 26-year-old, from Edinburgh, is understood to be in an induced coma after undergoing a lifesaving 10-hour operation.

He is now slowly coming out of his sedation and will remain in intensive care. An online fundraiser has been set up in the wake of the accident to support the midfielder's family.

It has since received more than £11,000 in donations. Among those to donate include Scottish international footballer and ex-Rangers player, Jason Cummings.

The online fundraiser reads: "He is now slowly coming out of his sedation in intensive care. It’s going to be an extremely long road for Scott to recover, but we are so grateful he is still here with us, because things could have been different.

"His girlfriend, Lucy, is at home caring for their little one, not really being able to work, and Scott will not be able to get back to work for quite a while due to the severity of what has happened to him.

"Any help to help his family cover bills and to live while he recovers to the fullest would be a heavy weight taken from their shoulders.

"We are praying he makes a full recovery and right now are just trying to help care for Lucy and his little boy until he is able to communicate again and start to recover."

The appeal has been shared by Scott's clubs, past and present.

A statement from Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale reads: "Any help would be hugely appreciated for our club captain and his family."

Scott's former club, Borders-based Gala Fairydean Rovers said: "Sending love to Scott and his family."

The midfielder has also played for St Johnstone's youth club, Livingston's youth club and Kelty Hearts.
