Unexpectedly high enrollment at Portland’s Franklin and Grant high schools this fall has created “critical overcrowding” that district officials suggest could result in changes to both schools’ attendance boundaries before next fall.
The district recently remodeled or rebuilt four of its seven neighborhood high schools, including Franklin and Grant, to accommodate 1,700 students. But the two schools recorded roughly 2,050 and 2,150 students respectively this fall.
