Isolated severe storms will be possible in part of Alabama later today, according to forecasters.
Scattered rain and storms were moving across the state on Thursday morning, but none was severe.
Stronger storms, however, will be possible this afternoon and into early tonight along a cold front that is forecast to move through Alabama.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has northeast Alabama in a marginal risk for severe weather today.
A marginal risk is Level 1 out of 5 and means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville said stronger storms this afternoon and early tonight could have winds of 25-35 mph, and the severe ones could have winds of more than 55 mph.
Forecasters said the greatest risk for severe storms will be east of Interstate 65.
Rain and storms will be possible across the rest of Alabama today as well, but they are not expected to become severe.
The front will sweep away the rain and Friday will feature clearing skies and cooler and drier air, according to the weather service.
The weekend is expected to stay dry before another front approaches on Monday and will raise the chance for rain and storms again.
