Severe weather will threaten North Texas overnight as powerful storm systems on the west coast push showers and high winds into the area, the National Weather Service said.
Tuesday afternoon will be warm and humid before rain chances increase significantly overnight as storms from West Texas move east. The storms will likely bring showers and damaging winds — in excess of 70 mph — to Dallas-Fort Worth after midnight, with the greatest likelihood for storms between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
The threat for tornadoes will mainly remain to the northwest of the metroplex and into Oklahoma, but it doesn’t rule out a the possibility for twisters in North Texas. Hail may also accompany the overnight showers.

Sunshine will return mid-morning Wednesday along with an autumnal drop in temperatures behind a cold front.
“Evening storms start firing up out to the west just after sunset,” KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Grant Johnston said. “... And they’ll get stronger as they build eastward. ... But they should be out of here by 8, 9 o’clock [Wednesday].”
High winds will threaten the latter work week; strong and gusty winds are expected throughout Thursday, with speeds around 15-30 mph with gusts 35 to 40 mph, or even higher possible. The winds may make for choppy lakeside conditions and pose a hazard to boats or cars — or unsecured Halloween lawn decor.
Here’s what NBC5′s latest forecast says:
Today: 86, partly to mostly cloudy, warm, and breezy.
Tonight: 66, storms likely after 1 a.m. Rain chance: 100%.
Wednesday: 74/66, 100% chance for morning rain and storms before sunrise. Windy and cooler in the afternoon.
Thursday: 73/55, partly cloudy. Becoming very windy in the afternoon.
Friday: 70/53, sunny and breezy.
Saturday: 75/49, sunny.
Sunday: 79/53, clear and dry for Halloween.
