The Davis Police Department has been able to identify an unknown woman with severe amnesia.

Detectives with the department were able to identify the woman based on a phone call received Friday. They confirmed that she was a 46-year-old woman reported missing out of the Los Angeles area, according to a Facebook post from the Davis Police Department. The name of the woman was not given, but the department noted that she is in good physical health and is being taken care of by medical professionals.

“Over the past month, our detectives have investigated numerous leads,” the department stated. “We are extremely happy with the outcome of this case and will now be able to reunite the female with her family.”

The identification came just one day after the department had posted an update in which they noted that they were still investigating the case. They said that DNA was being considered as a method of identification, but that the process “took time.”

The Davis Police Department first asked the public for help on June 24. They noted that she had been found on May 30 after a Davis resident reported that a woman had wandered into his backyard in the 3400 block of Seabright Ave. in West Davis. She could not identify herself, and appeared confused.

She was then taken to the hospital, where it was discovered that she was suffering from severe case of amnesia, although she was in good physical health with no injuries.

The department stated that they had attempted to identify her without success. Both fingerprints and computer checks were unsuccessful. The woman provided officers and hospital staff with several names and birthdates.

The department’s original post had multiple comments from people trying to help identify the woman. The original post had over 700 comments as of Monday, with comments from people in multiple different states.

Close to 40 people reacted to the news Friday, mostly with excitement that she had been identified, and reunited with her family.
