A line of thunderstorms will likely develop this afternoon across Lower Michigan. A few of these storms could produce quick but severe wind gusts, large hail or even an isolated tornado.
Here are the various severe weather forecasts for this afternoon or evening from the Storm Prediction Center, NOAA’s severe weather forecasting branch.

The main threat of severe weather is short segments of straight-line winds. The forecast map below shows the highest chance of severe wind gusts covers an area from northeast Lower all the way to the Ohio and Indiana border.
Percent chance of a damaging wind gust over 57 mph this afternoon and evening.
While a widespread tornado outbreak isn’t expected, there could be a short-lived tornado somewhere in the green shaded area. The most likely area for a tornado would be in the far northeast corner of the green shaded area and along the Ohio border.
Percent chance of a tornado within 25 miles of a given point this afternoon and evening.
Just a few thunderstorms would be capable of producing large hail.
Percent chance of one inch diameter or larger hail this afternoon and evening.

If you are in central Lower Michigan, around Mount Pleasant, expect possible storms between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. This is where the line of storms is expected to form. The line of storms will then move south this evening. The severe storms could be in the southern third of Lower Michigan between 9 p.m. and midnight tonight, bringing a quick but potent thunderstorm to Lansing, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Flint, Saginaw, Ann Arbor and Detroit.
