Today: Our stalled system that has brought a few showers to our southeastern counties and some cloud cover elsewhere is finally moving out today. Skies will turn from partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Thick, upper level wildfire smoke will filter back into eastern Iowa skies making things hazy today. Air quality is not expected to degrade much. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s with slightly humid air and a southwest wind at 5 to 15 mph.
Tonight: There may be a stray shower or storm late tonight, particularly in the north/northwest but most will stay dry with partly cloudy skies. Lows will be in the mid 60s with a south wind at 5 to 15 mph. It will stay humid.
Wednesday: A system bringing a warm front through the area will lead to scattered storms becoming more likely late in the morning through the rest of the day, especially north near the Iowa-Minnesota border. This is where some storms will be strong to severe in the afternoon/evening with all modes of severe weather possible, especially damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. Otherwise, skies will be partly sunny and it will be warm with highs in the low to upper 80s. A breezy south wind at 10 to 20 mph will lead to very humid air.
Thursday: As a cold front swings through the area, we will see scattered showers and storms move from north to south through Wednesday night and Thursday. Heavy rain will be possible. Highs will be in the 70s to low 80s. As the cold front comes through, winds will shift and humidity will drop.
Weekend into Next Week: An extended period of dry weather looks to develop as high pressure takes control of the Midwest. This means generally mostly sunny skies and slowly accumulating temperatures all the way through next week. Highs will reach to near 90 next week.
