CHICAGO (CBS) — A first round of severe storms for the afternoon this Father’s Day did not materialize for most of the Chicago area thanks to stable atmospheric conditions, but severe weather was seen in particular in Northwest Indiana.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Robb Ellis reported earlier clouds just did not allow us to warm up, and that meant the atmosphere remained stable.

They were to expire at 5:30 p.m.
There were some signs that the storms were showing evidence of possible rotation, but no reports of any tornadoes.
A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect until midnight for much of Indiana including LaPorte County, but not the other Northwest Indiana counties. The watch also covered the southern half of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan all the way to Detroit, and also northwest Ohio.

As of the early evening, a severe thunderstorm watch also was in effect for much of Iowa, some Illinois counties along the Mississippi River, southwest Wisconsin, and southeast Minnesota, but no severe weather watches or warnings had yet been issued for the Chicago area.
However, that later round of storms is still expected to bring a line of strong to severe activity Sunday tonight.
But the timing could be a little later than first expected, closer to 10 p.m. until midnight. The storms will start moving in through the Quad Cities and then start closing in on Chicago — after midnight and into the early morning hours, CBS 2 Meteorologist Mary Kay Kleist reported.
