CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Northeast Ohio will be under a threat of severe weather from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night, followed by a prolonged period of rain Sunday night through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
The effects of these storms will cause flooding, damp conditions and possibly damaging hail, said Zach Secovic, a meteorologist with NWS.
Northeast Ohioans can expect scattered showers throughout the area Saturday, which will pick up in the afternoon.
“Don’t expect severe weather today,” he said. “Sunday afternoon and evening we are expecting showers and thunderstorms will enter from the left and there’s a potential for these to become strong and severe.”
This means the storms will also come with very strong wind gusts, Secovic said.
After that round of storms, from Sunday night through Tuesday, the area will experience wet weather.
“It’s just sort of going to be a dreary end of June,” he said. “Just prolonged cloudy days, rain, things like that.”
The threat of those strong to severe thunderstorms that will hit Northeast Ohio from Sunday afternoon to Sunday night will impact the Ohio Valley, like Cincinnati, the hardest, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland and AccuWeather. The rain and thunderstorms are expected to leave the Ohio Valley around the middle of next week, AccuWeather also said.
Secovic said to pay attention to the forecast before heading out Sunday. The first part of the day will be dry, but the storms are on their way.
“Be aware of changes in the weather, have different ways to pay attention to the weather as it changes Sunday,” he said.

Sunday/Sunday night: High of 85 degrees, low around 65 degrees
Monday/Monday night: High near 78 degrees, low around 62 degrees
Tuesday/Tuesday night: High near 72 degrees, low around 60 degrees
