Alabama has the potential to be affected by several rounds of storms from Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has forecast the potential for severe storms for parts of Alabama both days, with Friday’s storm threat being more widespread.
Here is Thursday’s severe weather outlook:
Isolated severe storms will be possible in the areas in dark green on Thursday -- mainly Thursday night.
It shows a Level 1 (or marginal) risk for a part of north and west Alabama, mainly Thursday night. A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.
Thursday’s storms could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail.
Friday has a slightly higher potential for severe storms, according to the Storm Prediction Center. Forecasters have most of the state in a Level 2 (or slight) risk for severe weather on Friday as a cold front moves into the state.
The rest of the state (northwest and southeast Alabama) will have a Level 1 risk for isolated severe storms.
Friday’s storms could also bring damaging winds but they could also have hail up to the size of ping pong balls. The National Weather Service said the threat for a tornado was lower but not zero and will be monitored closely.
Friday’s storms could arrive in the form of a squall line, which could enter northwest Alabama on Friday morning to track southward and eastward through the day, according to forecasters.
All of central Alabama will have a slight risk for severe weather on Friday.
