As a frontal boundary pushes across the central United States and into the midwest by Friday we will be monitoring for the severe weather threat from the Great Lakes down into the Tennessee River Valley. Energy (above) will build along the front throughout the afternoon and evening.
We have a low chance of severe weather on Friday along this frontal boundary, but storms will carry from Thursday into Friday.
We will see showers and storms on Thursday night, and while most of these will be sub-severe a few storms could have an attitude through the nighttime hours across the Midwest.
On Friday, as the frontal boundary works east and interacts with warm temperatures & higher humidity, we anticipate strong to severe storms as early as Friday morning.
Storms will continue across the Ohio River Valley on Friday evening, impacting areas through the first part of the overnight hours. Gusty winds, hail and even an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
The Weather Prediction Center has put out an outlook in nearly the same area as the severe weather threat for the risk of flash flooding. We will be monitoring heavy downpours, especially in urban areas for the potential of flooding.
Locally we will see 2-5″ of rainfall in some locations.
