Severe Storm Threat for the Southeast Today - WeatherNation

An upper level low is slowly moving through the southeast United States, providing a heavy rain & flash flood threat (more here). We have already seen reports of small hail across the Birmingham metro from Monday, with more widespread flood reports.

Along with the risk for flooding, the Storm Prediction Center has now issued a low lever 1 of 5 threat (or ‘marginal risk’) for severe storms on Tuesday. The main risk will be from large hail of 1″ in diameter or larger and gusts over 58 mph.

Tuesday afternoon, as the low pressure system drifts farther onshore, embedded rotation may help produce some stronger storms. Currently there is no tornado outlook from the Storm Prediction Center but there is a risk large updrafts may produce locally large hail.

Storms will become much more numerous for the afternoon and evening hours.

Showers and storms will redevelop on Wednesday across parts of the southeast. Although there is no official outlook, a few strong storms will be possible once again.
