Storms with surging wind gusts and heavy rain hit Summit and Wasatch counties Saturday night. While the wind speeds and rain amounts were impressive, the reported impact was minimal.
The National Weather Service warned a storm Saturday would bring “very heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts.” It warned they could cause damage and floods, but the two counties’ sheriffs’ offices said they hadn’t gotten any such reports.
Homes in the Interlaken area of Midway lost power in Saturday’s storm. Heber Light & Power announced the outage was restored later in the evening.
The weather service said wind speeds at the Jordanelle Reservoir peaked at 52 miles an hour. There and in the Park City area, gusts in the 40s were common.
High wind speeds in neighboring counties surpassed 70 miles per hour.
Park City got eight-tenths of an inch of rain Saturday night, and totals in other parts of Summit County were commonly around half an inch.
Heber City and Midway got about two-tenths of an inch.
At Parleys Summit, about a full inch of rain fell during the night.
As of Saturday, fire crews had gotten containment of the Parleys Canyon Fire to 90% with some help from heavy rains earlier in the week. Sunday morning, Summit County announced the fire was 100% contained.
Following the storm, forecasts for this week predict all sunny days with little to no rain predicted.
