PEORIA, IL. (Heart of Illinois ABC) - After a hot and humid day, we saw a line of strong and severe storms move through the area.
These storms started around dinner time near I-80 and then moved southeast through the area over the next couple of hours.
While most of these storms stayed below severe limits, widespread gusty winds were seen as the storms moved through. One Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service for areas between Peoria and Bloomington between 8:45 and 9:30 PM. A 63 mph wind gust was recorded at the Peoria International Airport.
Wind damage was also seen in parts of Fulton, Peoria and Tazewell Counties.
In Pekin, a power line fell and caught a tree on fire near Court Street.
As of just before 11 PM, over 6,000 people were without power in our viewing area, including over 3,500 in Peoria County.
