Today: A few isolated showers and storms are possible during the morning commute. Scattered storms will return in waves late this morning through Thursday. Some storms may be strong to severe with main threats being damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. There may be some instances of large hail and heavy rainfall could lead to some flash flooding. Turn Around, Don't Drown!
The first round of storms looks to impact northern Iowa around 10 or 11 AM with damaging wind gusts the main concern. This may move to the east through the afternoon, meanwhile, we will see partly sunny skies and a breezy south wind pushing humidity quite high with temperatures in the low to upper 80s. This will set the stage for more storm development in the afternoon, mainly for areas along and north of Highway 20. All modes of severe weather are possible with this round.
Tonight: As a cold front moves through this evening into tonight, a line of storms and heavy showers will move from north to south with damaging wind gusts, flash flooding, and a few tornadoes possible. Lows will be in the mid 60s to low 70s with winds shifting from the south to the north as the cold front moves by.
Thursday: The cold front will split the area for Thursday with more scattered shower and storm development across eastern Iowa. This round on Thursday should not be as strong as most of the severe weather potential will be south of I-80. Highs will be in the 70s to near 80. Humidity drops in the north, behind the cold front, with a north breeze. Skies will be mostly cloudy to partly cloudy.
Friday: We may see an isolated shower or two in our southeastern counties with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s.
Weekend into Next Week: An extended period of dry weather looks to develop as high pressure takes control of the Midwest. This means generally mostly sunny skies and slowly accumulating temperatures all the way through next week. Highs will reach the 90s next week.
