Westmoreland County’s total hospitalizations fell to 13, a low not seen since Oct. 3. There are four covid patients in the ICU and two on ventilators in that county.

In Westmoreland County, 27 cases — 11 confirmed and 16 probable — were reported to bring the county’s total to 34,191.

Pennsylvania reported 703 cases to hit 1,204,802 overall.

Elsewhere in the region, three counties were in double digits — Fayette (17), Butler (12) and Washington (10), while the rest were in single digits: Armstrong (3), Beaver (9), Indiana (9) and Somerset (9).

Philadelphia had the most new cases in the state with 90, followed by York (51), Allegheny (35), Montgomery (32) and Luzerne (29).

Vaccinations

Allegheny County surpassed 750,000 people with at least one covid vaccination shot, according to state data. The county has 756,400 with at least one shot, which translates to 61.83% of its population. There are 567,466 people fully vaccinated in the county, which is 46.39%.

In Westmoreland County, 47.39% (173,069) of the county has at least one shot, while 38.28% (139,791) of the population is fully vaccinated.

Pennsylvania hit 54.7% (5,563,234) of its 18-and-older population becoming fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Overall, 71.4% (7,259,111) of that population has received at least one shot.

Deaths

The Pennsylvania Department of Health added 30 deaths to its totals Friday to reach 27,325. Of those deaths newly reported Friday, seven are from June and 23 are from May.

The Allegheny County Health Department on Friday reported three deaths — one person in their 60s and two in their 70s — as its total climbed to 1,956. The state, however, reported one death in Allegheny County to raise its total to 1,986. The discrepancy between the two health departments has yet to fully be explained.

Westmoreland County had no additional deaths for the second straight day to remain at 769. According to state data, Indiana County, with one, was the only other county in the region to add a death.

About 49% of the state’s covid deaths have occurred in nursing or personal-care facilities. Montgomery (1,108) and Allegheny (1,042) are the only counties with more than a thousand.
