Michigan reported 7,955 new coronavirus cases and 35 additional deaths on Wednesday, April 14.
The state is averaging 7,006 new COVID-19 cases per day and 42 new deaths per day over the last week. This is the second straight day the seven-day average for new cases was more than 7,000. It is a small drop from Tuesday’s average of 7,014.
The state reports a total of 764,519 coronavirus cases and 16,621 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Additionally, the state has reported 86,064 probable cases and 1,075 probable deaths, in which a physician and/or antigen test ruled it COVID-19 but no confirmatory PCR test was done.

Seventy-nine of Michigan’s 83 counties reported new cases on Wednesday. Wayne County led in new cases with 1,445, with the next closest being Oakland with 1,030.
Other top reporting counties included Macomb with 799, Kent with 651, Ottawa with 336, Genesee with 277, Washtenaw with 222, Kalamazoo with 201, Livingston with 184 and Ingham with 180.
Seventeen counties reported new deaths led by St. Clair with seven. The county had been in the top-10 for cases for the last two weeks.
The next leading counties for new deaths is Ingham with five, Genesee with three and two each for Wayne, Ottawa and Midland. The following counties reported one death each: Macomb, Oakland, Kent, Allegan, Berrien, Van Buren, Mason, Gratiot, Otsego, Charlevoix and Dickinson.

Hospitals statewide were treating 4,250 patients with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 45 children and 842 total patients in the ICU. These totals are a jump from 3,549 hospitalizations and 668 in the ICU last Wednesday, April 7.
Models project Michigan will surpass last April’s 4,365-hospitalization peak sometime this week.
Of the 40,374 diagnostic tests processed on Wednesday, 14.63% came back positive for SARS-CoV-2. The average positivity rate over the last seven days is 15.4%.
Case reporting

(In a few instances, a county reported a negative number (decline) in daily new cases, following a retroactive reclassification by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. In those instances, we subtracted cases from the prior date and put 0 in the reported date.)
The next chart below shows new cases for the past 30 days based on onset of symptoms. In this chart, numbers for the most recent days are incomplete because of the lag time between people getting sick and getting a confirmed coronavirus test result, which can take up to a week or more.
