Illinois severe weather preparedness week - WIFR

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- According to the Illinois State Fire Marshal Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Illinois runs from March 1st through March 7th.

They say the week is designed to remind community members to review severe weather plans, and practice those plans. Severe weather can occur anytime of the year and anytime of the day, especially in spring.

The Rockford Fire Department shared a post Sunday reminding people to test their NOAA Weather Radio and make sure they are able to receive emergency alerts on your mobile phone. They say you can find out additional, life-saving information at www.redy.gov/alerts

The Loves Park Fire Department says warm weather also means it's time to prepare for storms. They say to review weather safety procedures. such as tornado drills or evacuation plans, at home, work, school, places of worship and the roadways.

On Tuesday at 10 a.m. the NWR required a weekly test and social media drill.
