A severe weather outbreak is possible across the viewing area today, with intense tornadoes, damaging wind, and hail likely.
MODERATE RISK: The Storm Prediction Center has all of central Illinois in a level 4 out of 5 risk for severe weather, with all severe threats possible.
THREATS: Tornadoes and large, damaging hail are the primary threats today. Tornadoes could be intense and long-lived, given the atmospheric situation. Hail could be near 2" in diameter. Damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph are also possible with these thunderstorms.
TIMING: There has been some model disagreement, but the latest indications point between about a 3 to 9 PM timeline. The fast-moving nature of these storms will lead to a shorter warning-time. When a Tornado Warning is issued, go to your safe place IMMEDIATELY.
Stay safe! We'll continue keeping you up-to-date on-air, on WEEK.com, social media, and the 25 Weather Tracker app. We will break into programming and stream online and through Facebook live, when Tornado Warnings are in effect. It is also a good time to make sure your NOAA Weather Radio is functioning.
