RAPID CITY, S.D. – After the snow we got over Saturday and Sunday, Terry Peak’s opening date still remains up in the air. Approximately one to three inches of snow fell in the area, but the strong winds remain a factor in complete calculations.

Terry Peak is currently making snow for the Stewart, Little Phil, and Surprise slopes. Conditions for making snow are specific and was a difficult task to carry out with the recent weather patterns.

“We’re going to get through this cold spell, then we’ll reevaluate what we have and what we still need and then determine what date we’re going to try to open,” Marketing Director Linda Derosier said. “I don’t know for sure if it’s going to be a weekend or not but as soon as we can possibly open, we’ll get open.”

However, this recent cold weather has been a very important lifeline.

“This is the first opportunity that we have actually had to make snow for more than just a few hours. We’re excited that we have been able to operate our guns for about 36 hours now,” she said. “And we should be able to continue.”

No official opening date has been announced yet.
