BYU football gets commitment from Lone Peak OL, former Virginia commit Joe Brown - Deseret News

Over the past few years, a growing number of high school football players from Utah have opted to play collegiately for the Virginia Cavaliers, as former BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall was in the same position there.

That was the plan for Lone Peak High offensive lineman Joe Brown, who pledged to the Cavaliers in June, but after Mendenhall abruptly resigned on Dec. 2, Brown decommitted on Thursday.

With the early signing period slated to start on Dec. 15, some figured the timing may have left Brown in a tough spot, but on Friday evening, he announced via Twitter that he has committed to BYU.

Listed by 247 Sports at 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, Brown also holds a scholarship offer from Indiana, as well as a handful of FCS schools.

Brown becomes the 17th prospect to commit to BYU as part of its 2022 recruiting class and first since Weber High’s Aisea Moa flipped his pledge from Utah back in October.
