KANSAS CITY, Mo. — UPDATE, 9:36 p.m. | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning also has been issued for Miami County, Kansas, and Cass County, Missouri.
It's in effect until 10 p.m.
UPDATE, 8:23 p.m. | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Jackson County in Missouri.
Wind gusts of 60 miles per hour are expected, along with quarter-size hail.
5:54 p.m. | Storm damage reports in Blue Springs indicate storms brought down tree limbs, fences and even threw a grill several yards.
5:50 p.m. | NWS updated the area under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:15 p.m.
7:30 p.m. | A lightning strike is blamed for a house fire tonight at East 152nd Terrace and Bellaire Avenue in Grandview, Missouri.
The strike caused a fire in the back of the house, according to the Grandview Fire Department.
Two people were in the house and both got out.
One of those suffered a minor burn and was treated at the scene.
A dog was rescued from the house.
5:41 p.m. | At least 16 arrival and departure flights are delayed at KCI.
5:39 p.m. | Officials in Lee's Summit reported winds of nearly 80 mph.
5:34 p.m. | The number of Evergy customers without power continues to climb. As of 5:30 p.m., more than 17,000 people were without power.
5:28 p.m. | Southeastern portions of the Kansas City area are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.
5:23 p.m. | Upwards of 13,000 Evergy customers are now without power.
5:20 p.m. | NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southern portions of the metro on the Kansas side through 5:45 p.m. Southern parts of the area on the Missouri side are under a similar warning, including Lee's Summit, Pleasant Hill and Greenwood.
5:10 p.m. | The number of Evergy customers without power has reached nearly 12,000.
5:05 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued through 5:15 p.m. for areas including Blue Springs, Grain Valley and Oak Grove.
4:58 p.m. | Evergy reports more than 10,000 people are without power in its service area, according to the outage map.
A few flights are delayed at the Kansas City International Airport, too.
4:50 p.m. | A cold front ushered in by the storm dramatically dropped hot temperatures in Kansas City to the 70s.
4:45 p.m. | More than 8,000 people in Evergy's service area are without power as storms move through the Kansas City region.
4:20 p.m. | Viewers report hail in North Kansas City.
3:45 p.m. |The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for North central Leavenworth County, Northwestern Clay County and Northeastern Platte County until 4 p.m. Thursday.
The storm was located over Weston on the border of Kansas, and is moving east.
NWS said the hazards included 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.
The areas that could be impacted are Kansas City, Leavenworth, Smithville, Platte City, Weston, Lake Waukomis, Camden Point, Ferrelview, Platte Woods, Tracy, Ridgely, Fort Leavenworth, Beverly, Kansas City Intl Arpt and Hoover.
