Strong and severe thunderstorms are still in the forecast as we head into tonight capable of producing high, damaging winds as well as large hail, heavy rain and an isolated tornado or two.
The latest forecast models have slowed the timing down of these storms compared to earlier forecasts. These storms will be dependent on the combined interaction between a warm front, the low level jet and a upper wave, and our current thinking is that severe weather will be possible as early as 9 PM and as late as 5 AM tomorrow morning.
Although the timing has shifted a little, the overall theme of the forecast remains the same.
Chances for severe thunderstorms will be highest for areas near and south of I-74. High, damaging winds upward of 70+ mph will be the main threat within any severe storms. However, large hail upward of ping pong or possible even golf ball size will be possible as well as heavy rain and frequent lightning.
While our tornado risk is low, an isolated tornado or two could be possible due to the high amount of wind shear that will be present later this evening and overnight.
Flash flooding may also be possible, especially in areas where prolonged heavy rain falls.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect mostly to our south and west tomorrow morning, but locally Fulton and Mason County are included.
