O’Neil Rocky Mountain Art

Kay O’Neil, owner of the stained glass art shop in the Nederland Caribou Shopping Center, said when she moved into the former candy store, “I have the sweet spot.” A lot of people do paintings, so what would be different — stained glass paintings hang in the window.

O’Neil does her own designs. She does a lot of nature and works with line, color and texture. She can draw and does paint by the numbers style. She creates logos, graphic arts and also wants to do T-shirts.

She can do etching on glass and will have picture framing. Currently, she has orders for ten cardinal and butterfly glasses. She also teaches classes in stained glass painting.

O’Neil has lived in the area for 10 years. She lived in Old Town Nederland and then moved to Gilpin County where she had studio with a dirt floor and it got too cold. She found out the candy shop building was available and opened up on January 1, so she has been in the location for a year.

She had to change the business name, so she decided on O’Neil Rocky Mountain Art, LLC. She offers her classes at $20 an hour, and students just need to bring themselves because she has all the supplies. A nine-year-old boy just finished painting a fish in class, had lot of fun and did a good job.

“People will ask to come in the store, and by the time they leave, they are dancing out the door,” O’Neil said.
