The Cincinnati Bengals shifted left tackle Jonah Williams to injured reserve early Wednesday morning.

But the news is otherwise good.

According to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, via ESPN’s Ben Baby, the team “dodged a bullet” on the severity of the injury. It’s one Williams would probably be able to return from had it happened earlier in the season.

It initially sounded like Williams had avoided a major injury, though either way it seemed likely he’d miss the remainder of this season. Any injury was unfortunate though considering Williams had by far been the team’s best lineman in what amounted to his rookie season.

Even better, there is still hope Williams might even be able to make it back for the season finale, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Tyler Dragon:

It’s hard to see that happening as the Bengals will probably just be happy to get out of the season without another first-rounder like Williams suffering a severe setback.

With Williams out, the Bengals will give Hakeem Adeniji the start at left tackle.
