Cheese Curds, 12/8: Packers offense is at the peak of its powers heading into final month - Acme Packing Company

gemerlapbulan.blogspot.com

The last time the Green Bay Packers led the NFL in scoring was back in 2014. Not surprisingly, that was the last season that saw Aaron Rodgers at the peak of his powers — playing at an MVP caliber for an entire season while having one of the NFL’s very best wide receivers to throw to and an effective running game to complement him.

That situation is repeating itself in 2020. The Packers rank first in points scored this season across the NFL and they even rank second in total yards of offense, a feat they last accomplished in 2007. This year, however, they hope to advance farther than either the 2007 or 2014 teams, which each lost heartbreakers in the NFC Championship Games.

This is an interesting historical note, however: if the Packers were to end up leading the NFL in total yardage on offense, it would be the first time that would have happened in 80 years. The last Packers squad to be ranked first in total offense was the 1940 team, a squad that went 6-4-1 despite an offense consisting of Cecil Isbell, Arnie Herber, Clarke Hinkle, and of course, Don Hutson.

Can the Packers overcome the Chiefs for that top spot? It’s unlikely, with Kansas City holding a lead by almost 400 yards. But that’s not the ultimate goal for this Packers team, of course — it’s overcoming a team like Kansas City in a different way: in the Super Bowl.

Who's better than this duo right now? The only other possible candidates would be Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill, but Adams has basically the same total numbers as Hill in two fewer games.

Greene's injury may be the most impactful, with no obvious replacement for his skill set on the roster. Ervin's likely absence will mean that Tavon Austin should be active on Sunday in Detroit.
