Next Big Thing: A significant cold front is forecast to push into the Southeast early next week. We will likely remain dry tonight with showers overnight and early Monday morning. The latest change in the forecast is that most of Monday is shaping up to be dry as the cold front slows down. We are looking at a partly cloudy sky on Monday with highs approaching 70. Isolated showers are possible on Monday morning and into the evening hours. The bulk of the rain and thunderstorms will likely push into Alabama Tuesday morning. The timing can still change with this next cold front, so stay tuned for updates.

The latest trends are showing this system becoming a heavy rainfall event for North and Central Alabama between Monday at 10 p.m. to Tuesday until 2 p.m. Tuesday. The latest guidance from the Storm Prediction Center shows a severe threat for parts of East Texas, Louisiana, Southern Arkansas, Central and Southern Mississippi Monday and far west central and south Alabama. Portions of west and southwest-Central Alabama are under a marginal risk for storms, with Pickens and Sumter County under a slight risk. This leaves a low-end severe threat Monday into Tuesday. We could end up with gusty winds around 60 mph, and possible tornadoes can’t be ruled out. Tuesday morning looks very messy, so please be careful if you plan to travel for the holidays. I would suggest traveling on Wednesday (or early in the day Monday) to avoid the wet and stormy weather.

Potential Rainfall
Potential Rainfall(WBRC)

Potential Rainfall: The storm system expected early next week could produce some beneficial rainfall across Alabama. It looks like the bulk of the heavy rain will occur Tuesday morning. We could end up with widespread one to two inches of rain. Some locations could see higher totals. Rainfall potential could still change as we get new information. Behind this cold front, we are looking at partly cloudy to mostly sunny and chilly temperatures heading into Thanksgiving. Highs are forecast to warm into the upper 50s next Wednesday and Thursday afternoon with overnight lows in the upper 30s and low 40s. A low pressure in the Gulf could bring showers Thanksgiving Day and into Friday morning.
