Chico woman arrested for severe animal neglect leading to dog's euthanasia, additional pets rescued from home - KRCR

A local woman has been arrested for animal cruelty after her dog was found to be so severely undernourished that it had to be euthanized, police say.

On Monday, Nov. 6, the Chico Police Department (CPD) says officers were dispatched to a veterinary clinic, off of Dr. Martin Luther Jr Pkwy, after receiving a report of the dog's poor health. They say the vet's office determined there were no underlying health issues with the dog other than the owner had not cared for the animal properly.

The owner of the dog, 23-year-old Luna Eclipse Strailligen, was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for cruelty to animals, based on the gross neglect of the dog. Police say detectives then served a search warrant at Strailligen's home on W. 15th Street and found it to be unsanitary living conditions for the several animals found living inside the home. According to officials, the animals were transported to a local shelter and are now receiving proper care.
