Storms fizzle while moving across Minnesota - KSTP


UPDATE — 9 p.m.

A tornado warning for Stearns County has expired but storms continue to move across Minnesota.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in place for several counties until 10 p.m., including: Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Kandiyohi, Martin, McLeod, Meeker, Morrison, Nicollet, Sibley, Stearns, Todd and Watonwan counties.

Video captured near Belgrade by Michael Marz showed what appeared to be a tornado on Friday night. No injury reports have been received at this time.

UPDATE — 7 p.m.

A tornado warning has been issued for Stearns County.

The affected area includes Melrose and New Munich until 7:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service says it has received reports of brief tornado touchdowns.


A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Minnesota as storms are moving across the western and southern areas of the state.

The National Weather Service says the watch is in effect for the following counties until 10 p.m.: Big Stone, Blue Earth, Brown, Chippewa, Cottonwood, Douglas, Faribault, Jackson, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Martin, McLeod, Meeker, Morrison, Murray, Nicollet, Nobles, Pipestone, Pope, Redwood, Renville, Rock, Sibley, Stearns, Stevens, Swift, Todd, Traverse and Watonwan counties.

KSTP Meteorologist Wren Clair says the storms could bring hail, damaging winds and possibly even a few tornadoes.

The storms are expected to continue moving toward the Twin Cities, with the area likely to be impacted between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. However, the system is expected to weaken as it moves east.
