Severe weather season looks to remain busy into the first week of May as a potent wave of energy moves east of the Rockies. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has been highlighting a region on Monday for several days, though due to significant model discrepancy the region has been shifting quite a bit.
The most recent outlook is posted below, which shows a chance for severe storms from Northeast Texas through the Ohio Valley.
The areas in yellow (above) are expected to have a better chance for severe storms, while the region in red (below) has significant severe weather potential, which means ingredients look good for stronger storms here compared to the rest of the region.
Forecast
As mentioned previously, weather models are not in good agreement about the position and timing of the atmospheric features that will drive the severe weather potential, but areas in the severe weather outlook should pay close attention to the changing forecast in the days ahead.
One model, the GFS, shows significant potential for strong storms beginning Monday evening across portions of the Mississippi Valley before moving to the Northeast overnight.
Heavy rain will also be possible with this storm system on Monday. The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is highlighting the region below for isolated flash flood potential.
This forecast will likely change significantly in the days ahead. This article will be updated periodically but be sure to stay up to date with the latest through our broadcasts.
