The threat for severe weather will continue in the Plains to end this week. The risk area shifts southward from Kansas and eastern Colorado into the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles for Friday. A developing low pressure center and dryline will likely produce a few thunderstorms with large hail and strong wind gusts.
Activity will be limited in the morning and early afternoon Friday. By the late afternoon, storms will fire along a dryline and weak surface low pressure center. Friday’s storms appear to be a bit stronger than Thursday, based on our forecast model’s predictions.
There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms (level 1 on a scale of 1 to 5) from eastern Colorado and Kansas southward to the Rio Grande in Texas. Once again, large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the main threats.
Jet stream energy aloft will be weaker, but instability will be higher with warmer temperatures and higher humidity. This will lead to several thunderstorms, a few possibly severe.
WeatherNation will have updates on-air and online for the potential of severe thunderstorms. Check back for forecast updates and alerts.
