Rams Looking to Peak at the Championships - CSURams.com

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With several conferences – including the Mountain West – not holding a championship, the Rams will join a smorgasbord of teams starting Thursday in the three-day Championships at the Peak event, hosted by the Air Force Academy at the Cadet Field House.

By a hair, the eight Mountain West members represent the majority in the 23-team field, but the Pac-12 is right behind with seven schools in competition. The rest of the institutions are sprinkled between the AAC, Big Sky and WAC.

All the teams involved include: Air Force, Colorado State, Tulane, Stanford, USC, UNLV, WYO, Fresno St., Cal, Wichita State, Idaho, Arizona, UCLA, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Grand Canyon, Colorado, New Mexico, SMU, Utah State, Oregon, Arizona State, and BYU.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for our student-athletes to go up against some really good competition – the best of the season so far," head coach Brian Bedard said. "It is a nice mixture of schools from power five and group five conferences. Every one of our event groups will be challenged other than the middle distance and distance who are not competing, because no one wants to run at that high of altitude and they have the cross country championships next week. We are essentially taking our power group of sprints, jumps, and throws. The team and the student-athletes individually are excited to put their talent on display against high-quality opponents."

A look at the entry lists – a descending list of all-time PRs of the participants – puts the stiff competition in perspective although imperfect since it factors in career numbers instead of just this season. The Ram men have 17 top-10 marks and five top-5 marks, while the women have 12 and four, respectively.

The meet is closed to fans, but live stats and a video steam will be available.
