COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Eric Lundgren and Jordan Lanning were the top Rams Thursday in their respective multi events to start the Championships at the Peak event that goes through Saturday inside the Cadet Field House.
Lanning, of Bayfield, Colo., upped her best pentathlon performance to 3,614 points, finishing in sixth place. The sophomore had stiff competition as all five runners ahead of her are in line to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Lanning's PR increased by 14 points but not enough to eclipse the next Ram on the all-time list, so she stays at the No. 14 spot. Within the pentathlon, she PR'd the 60-meter hurdles, shot put and high jump with the latter tying the 10th-best mark in CSU history at 5'8.75''.
In the men's heptathlon, Lundgren will go into day two positioned in third place after four events. The Cheyenne, Wyo. native logged a PR in the 60m at 7.18 but was able to get majority of his points from dominating in the shot put. Lundgren tossed it at least five feet farther than the next competitors to land at 50-feet flat. He trails California's Hakim McMorris and Air Force's Wyatt Murphy in the standings with the 60mH, pole vault and 1000m awaiting on Friday.
Besides the heptathlon resuming tomorrow, two buses of Rams will be headed south to start competition. The men's weight throw begins at 9 a.m., while the track events commence at noon for the Rams with starting with the 60mH.
Coach's Corner
Head Coach Brian Bedard
On Day One…
"We had a decent first day with some PRs, so that is always a good sign. You could tell Lexie [Keller] was not 100% after missing significant time with COVID issues. It is tough to miss all those training blocks and expect to perform like you want to and be successful. We knew that going in though. Jordan [Lanning] put in a really solid pent which will be good to build off of going into the outdoor season. Lundy [Eric Lundgren] had a gutty performance as he has been fighting some Achilles issues, so I think he showed a lot of heart today. He is in a position for a big day tomorrow and a PR performance."
