Rain persists Sunday, with afternoon hours bringing severe potential - WSIL TV

(WSIL) -- Ongoing rainfall this morning will continue in an off and on manner for much of the day, before severe weather becomes a concern this afternoon.

Thunder, lightning and isolated strong winds may accompany some storms through the early to mid morning hours. Through late morning and early afternoon, we may see a relative lull in thunderstorm activity, while scattered showers and rumbles of thunder are still possible.

It's not until this afternoon that we expect a round of strong to severe storms that are capable of damaging winds. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out. This risk will be focused in the bootheel of Missouri, and northwest Tennessee, but may extend farther northwest into the region.

Overall, in addition to the rainfall from last night, Sunday is another wet day. Much drier weather is in the forecast this week. Join us on News 3 this morning, where I'll be tracking today's storms.
