Today’s Forecast:
Strong to severe weather is very likely across southern Colorado, especially from the foothills east through the I-25 corridor and plains. The main storm threats today involve large hail, strong winds, flooding, and even an isolated tornado out east across the lower elevations. Storms will die off or move into Kansas overnight and we'll be dry but muggy by Thursday morning.
COLORADO SPRINGS: High: 84; Low: 57. Storms developing between 12 to 2 pm and quickly become strong to severe as they leave the mountains. 1-2" hail is possible, especially for all areas east of I-25, but strong winds, lightning, and flooding could affect the entire city.
PUEBLO: High: 89; Low: 61. Storms develop or move into town between 2 to 4 pm, and they will likely be strong to severe very quickly. 1-2" hail, strong winds, flooding, and lighting are all possible in and around the city of Pueblo.
CANON CITY: High: 89; Low: 62. Storms develop in the mountains outside of Canon City between 12 to 1 pm and could be in town anytime from 1 to 2 pm, likely growing stronger as they leave the mountains themselves. 1-1.5" hail, isolated flooding, strong winds, and lightning are all possible in storms today, but the strongest and most severe storms are more likely east of the city closer to Pueblo County.
WOODLAND PARK: High: 77; Low: 51. Storms develop in and around Woodland Park around 12 to 1 pm, quickly growing strong and possibly severe. Severe chances are more likely east of Woodland Park and Teller County in general, but quarter to walnut-sized hail, lots of lightning, strong winds, and localized flooding are all possible in the biggest storms today.
TRI-LAKES: High: 70s; Low: 50s. Storms develop between 12 to 1 pm and could quickly become strong to severe in and around the Tri-Lakes, especially for those living east of I-25. 1-2 inch hail, lots of lightning, strong winds, and localized flooding are all the main threats from storms in the early to mid-afternoon.
PLAINS: High: 80s; Low: 50s. Unfortunately, very strong and severe storms are likely again this afternoon with similar threats to yesterday. As storms move out of El Paso and Pueblo counties they will likely be severe with 1 to 2 inch hail possible, maybe isolated stones up to tennis ball in size, very strong winds, heavy rain, and flooding, as well as tons of lightning. Isolated tornadoes are possible but not as likely as large hail and flooding.
WALSENBURG/TRINIDAD: High: 80s; Low: 50s. The air will not be as muggy today and will not hold as much severe potential from Walsenburg to Trinidad, but scattered strong storms are still possible in the afternoon. Small to quarter sized hail, gusty winds, and lightning are all possible in storms today, but the strongest storms will be east of the two cities.
Extended Outlook:
Storms will be back tomorrow but the severe weather chances are a lot lower. We'll be hotter tomorrow, but the heat really ramps up by Friday and Saturday. We'll stay hot on Friday but with weaker and fewer storms. We'll keep isolated storm chances in and around the mountains over the weekend, but with very hot daytime conditions. Next week we could see some pretty big storms, mainly on Monday.
