SHAWANO, Wis. (WBAY) - UPDATE 7/28:
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that injured several people in Shawano County, according to the Sheriff's Office.
At about 9:30 p.m., the Sheriff's Office was called to a report of a crash between a semi and a car on Highway 29 at Clark Drive in the Town of Richmond.
Lt. Jesse Sperberg says four people were in the car. The driver attempted to cross the highway in the path of an eastbound semi.
"Several people were ejected from the car and numerous people with severe injuries were transported to Thedacare Shawano," says Sperberg.
The driver of the car was identified as a 21-year-old Waunakee man. The semi was driven by a 33-year-old Wausau man.
The Sheriff's Office did not release additional information about the passengers or their conditions.
"Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor for this crash," reads a statement from the Sheriff's Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
INITIAL REPORT
Officials say a right lane of eastbound Wisconsin 29 in Shawano County is closed Monday evening due to a crash.
511 issued a traffic alert for the highway in the area of County MMM shortly before 10 p.m. Monday night, specifically near Clark Drive.
Action 2 News confirmed the crash with the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, who said it involved a semi and at least one other vehicle.
Authorities at the Sheriff’s Office also said two people were ejected, and a helicopter was on the way.
The extent of the victims’ injuries weren’t immediately available.
