Severe potential returns this afternoon - WXOW.com

Out the door…

Cloud cover has started to increase across the region. This has been in relation to overnight thunderstorms sliding north of I-90. As a cold front continues to head southeast thunderstorms will continue to develop. This could keep the chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, mainly north of I-90. Storms are not expected to become severe early.

So keep the umbrella handy, but be prepared for the muggy feel as dew points climb back into the 70s. Highs will stall out in the upper 70s and low 80s with a lack of sunshine.

Severe weather…

The region that does not experience any morning showers will have a larger likelihood of severe weather. This will come late in the afternoon. The location of the cold front will also have an impact on where storms will start.

Timing: As the afternoon grabs surface heating and the cold front lines up, the timeframe to watch is late afternoon through the late evening. This chance will be around the Evening commute so all should keep themselves aware.

Threats: Largest threat with storms will be damaging winds and large hail. Then with an abundance of moisture (dew points in the 70s), localized flooding is possible. Flash flooding could lead to water over roads, so make sure to turn around if you encounter a flooded road. Yet, also cannot rule out the chance for an isolated tornado.

Then showers will linger into Wednesday afternoon with isolated thunder. Accumulations will range from half an inch to localized 2 inches as rain moves outs. Then we’ll bring back the sunshine with low humidity Thursday, yay!

Weekend heat…

A peek at the weekend seems to bring back the heat and humidity. Several isolated storm chances keep the dew points within the upper 60s and low 70s. Then highs will be able to flirt with 90 degrees with times of sunshine between storms. So be prepared to pump the A/C again.
