Clouds will continue to fill our skies with a few passing showers through the rest of the day. These will generally be light and not last very long. Gusty southerly winds will continue to push Gulf moisture northward and help spike afternoon temperatures into the mid-to-upper 70s. A few peaks of sunshine are possible through the afternoon. Overnight, temperatures will stay on the warm side, only falling to the mid 60s. A few showers will be possible through the overnight period as well.
Today: Overcast and breezy. Winds could occasionally gust above 20 mph. Warm. A few showers are possible. High: 76°
Tonight: Mostly cloudy. A passing shower or two. Low: 66°
Tuesday: Warm and breezy. Showers and thunderstorms develop in the afternoon. A few storms could be strong or severe. High: 78°
Tuesday will see warm, spring-like temperatures with showers possible throughout the morning. Thunderstorm chances increase in the afternoon and some could produce some large hail. With this threat, a Marginal (level 1) risk for severe weather has been outlined for areas north of I-10. The best chance for severe weather comes on Wednesday, but there’s still plenty of uncertainty as to what will exactly happen. Whether we see severe weather depends completely on where an area of low pressure moves and where the warm sector sets up. Most models agree that the warm front will lift north of I-10, putting most of us in the warm sector. That would mean that we could see severe weather pop up as the low moves to our north, but that the heaviest rain remains to our north. Some models keep the low down in the Gulf which keeps the warm sector offshore. This basically removes the severe risk for Acadiana, but increases the threat of heavy rain. If we end up in the warm sector, all modes of severe weather will be possible. Most of Acadiana will over an inch of rain, with over 3 inches possible the farther north you go. Once this low moves east, we see much drier and cooler air in place through the end of the week. Sunshine continues through the weekend.
