According to the NWS Midland/Odessa forecast office, there is a severe risk of thunderstorms today. Residents in the region should be prepared for severe wind gusts of up to 70 mph, tornadoes, 3-inch hail and flash flooding.

The NWS recommends you secure loose, outdoor objects that could be damaged by wind, shelter vehicles from hail damage if possible, and have weather alerts enabled on your smart devices.

The change for severe storms will continue into the weekend, with a marginal risk for Saturday afternoon and evening.

"Any severe storms that develop will be accompanied by large hail and/or damaging winds," the hazardous outlook reads. "Heavy rainfall may also result in flash flooding."
