The National Weather Service has extended the tornado watch for Lee County and several surrounding counties until 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham, Alabama, has issued a severe thunderstorm warning, tornado watch and flood watch for Lee County Thursday night.
The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Lee, Randolph, Macon, Chambers and Russell counties until 7:15 p.m. Thursday. A line of severe storms with winds up to 60 mph threatens the area and penny-sized hail is possible. NWS advises anyone in the area to seek shelter.
Lee County is under a tornado watch until 7 p.m. Thursday. The flood watch is in effect until 9 a.m. Friday, with 1-2 inches of rain Thursday night possible, according to the NWS.
Ralph Brown Draughon Library on Auburn University's main campus and Greene Hall in the College of Veterinary Medicine are open for the duration of the tornado watch for students and residents in need of shelter.
