Severe thunderstorms may bring damaging winds, hail and potentially tornadoes into North Texas on Sunday night and Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday morning will be dry but a cold front will move through the Dallas-Fort Worth area that evening, bringing a chance for severe thunderstorms after 9 p.m., according to the forecast. Damaging winds will be the primary concern, but tornadoes and large hail also are possible.
The greatest threat for severe weather will be from the metroplex and areas north and northeast into Oklahoma.
“(These storms) could put out some heavy rain, some gusty winds. Damaging winds could be the main threat as they move through,” KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Keisha Burns said. “... Be mindful, you certainly want to be weather aware.”
The line of storms will move east overnight and clear up Monday morning, the weather service said.
Chances of rain return to North Texas from Tuesday to Friday, and some strong storms and flooding may be possible during the work week.
Here’s NBC5′s forecast for the first half of the week:
Saturday: 94/69, sunny and hot.
Sunday: 92/65, isolated thunderstorms.
Monday: 86/66, mostly sunny.
Tuesday: 89/70, scattered thunderstorms.
Wednesday: 84/66, scattered thunderstorms.
