Timeline and location of another severe thunderstorm line, isolated tornadoes - mlive.com

A line of severe thunderstorms will likely develop late this afternoon or evening. Here’s a look at where and when these severe storms are likely.

The line of thunderstorms will need the heat of the afternoon to get going. The radar forecast below shows you the storms blowing up and moving southeast.

radar forecast

Radar forecast from 3 p.m. Tuesday to midnight Wednesday.

The line of thunderstorms will begin to form into a broken line between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The storms will develop in an area from Grand Rapids to Saginaw, Bay City and Midland.

The first hour or two the storms won’t be severe, but will be building toward becoming severe. As the storms move toward Kalamazoo, Lansing, Jackson, Flint, Ann Arbor and Detroit, the storms may become severe. The severe storms would occur between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

This is an evening severe weather outbreak.

Here’s where the Storm Prediction Center says the severe weather is most likely. Benton Harbor to Grand Rapids to Houghton Lake to Rogers City and all areas eastward have the greatest threat for a severe storm.

severe

Overall combined severe weather risk is termed "slight" which is a level two risk on a five level scale.

Remember, the severe weather will be isolated. A few miles down the road could have trees down, while your location barely gets a strong gust. The forecast below shows the highest chance of an isolated severe wind gust is in that same southeast half of Lower Michigan.

severe

Damaging wind risk is 15 percent in yellow area and five percent in brown area.

The Storm Prediction Center still thinks there is enough wind shear to produce an isolated tornado.

severe

Tornado risk is pegged at two percent for the green shaded area.

Every storm outbreak in the past two weeks has produced some large hail. Today could be the same situation, although the percent chance is fairly low.

severe

Chance of large hail is five percent in brown area.

Southeast and south-central Lower Michigan- get set for an hour of severe thunderstorms at your location. These storms would happen between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Be ready to move to the interior of your house, and get away from windows as the worst of a storm passes by you.
