Fall evokes images of colorful foliage, crisp air, warm drinks and, for some people, a quaint covered bridge crossing a forested creek.
Oregon is home to a surprisingly large number of covered bridges, most found along the back rounds and highways that cross the Willamette Valley, and combined they make a great autumn road trip.
On this week’s episode of Peak Northwest, we discuss how to embark on a covered bridges road trip, and why you should care about these quaint attractions in the first place.
Volcano views and ocean beaches are great, but this time of year there’s just something special about a covered bridge.
Here are some highlights from this week’s show:
- What’s so special about covered bridges?
- Clusters of covered bridges allow you to see several in a short time.
- Cottage Grove is considered the “Covered Bridge Capital of the West.”
- Pair a covered bridge tour with a visit to some hot springs, mountain views and other attractions.
