A few strong to severe storms will again be possible across south and south-central Alabama on Wednesday, according to forecasters.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has all of south Alabama in a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe weather today.
A Level 1 (or marginal) risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible, mainly this afternoon and into the evening hours.
The strongest storms could have wind gusts capable of knocking out the power or toppling trees. There could also be a lot of lightning.
The National Weather Service in Mobile will also be keeping a close eye on the potential for flooding. Today’s storms could bring torrential rain thanks to a tropical airmass in place and could drop a lot of rain in a short amount of time on already saturated ground.
There will also be another Level 1 risk for severe weather for Thursday for Alabama, but this time it will only be for the southwest part of the state.
Here is Thursday’s severe weather outlook:
Again, damaging winds are expected to be the main concern.
The upside to all the rain is that it could help keep temperatures down a bit on Thursday through the weekend in south Alabama. Southwest Alabama is facing its second straight day of heat advisories today, and the heat index could reach 105 to 109 degrees in parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties.
