A line of thunderstorms is expected to move through this afternoon and evening as a cold front makes it's way through the area. Some of these storms are expected to be strong or severe.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued area-wide through 9 PM, although our severe weather risk is likely to end closer to 8 PM. While our whole viewing area is under this watch, the best chance for severe storms will likely be east of the Illinois River.
High winds upward of 60-70 mph will be possible within any severe thunderstorms today. This will be the primary threat within any storms.
Large hail up to 1-2" in diameter may be possible at times as well, especially in any discrete or individual storms. While the risk for a tornado is low, a brief spin-up can't be completely ruled out today. Our flash flooding risk is also low today, but locally heavy rain will still be possible at times.
