Severe storms are possible today - Daily Leader - Dailyleader

Isolated severe storms are possible across the central and western portions of Mississippi Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday morning.

A strong cold front shifting east will move through the area, making the storms a marginal risk, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

A marginal risk means isolated severe storms, damaging wind gusts and hail up to a quarter size. A tornado also cannot be ruled out.

Showers are expected to begin between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., with a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms afterward until about 10 p.m. Showers will continue into Thursday morning, with a 90 percent chance of precipitation.

Wind gusts could reach 20 mph, and a one-half to three quarters of an inch of rain are possible.

A 50 percent chance of rainfall continues Thursday, with precipitation expected to reach no more than 1/10-inch. Temps are expected to reach a low around 27 and a 20 percent chance of freezing rain will come after 2 a.m. Friday morning.
