If you'll be outside camping today and tonight, you'll really want to pay attention to the potential for dangerous winds in thunderstorms.
What You Need To Know
- Storms will arrive in installments that begin late afternoon and linger into the predawn hours
- The highest risk for storm damage will be from wind gusts near or exceeding 50 mph
- There may also be locally heavy bursts of rain in storms
- Hail and isolated areas of rotation are also possible tonight
You may have noticed it feels a bit warmer outside along with breezy and humid conditions. We are set up in an unstable environment as a cold front gradually approaches the region this afternoon and tonight.
This front becomes the focal point for a severe weather risk.
While we will start see a few scattered showers and hear some rumbles around dinnertime today, around 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., a few more installments of strong storms will pick up in coverage after dark tonight.
Lines will be fast-moving with locally heavy bursts of rainfall within thunderstorms. Bowing lines of storminess with straight-line winds look possible. These storms will come in bouts from late evening and again overnight until about 2 a.m. or 3 a.m.
